Paul Nunez, a good friend and fellow CCC staff brought up an apparent discrepancy between my post The Joy and Weeping of Change and a conversation we recently had at a conference.
In my post I talk about the need to be patient with those who 'don't get it' in the hope of seeing some redemptive outcomes. In our conversation I encouraged him to focus his time on younger students who are more teachable instead of older students that 'don't get it.'
These conversations often get grouped in the 'Focus on the Freshmen' conversation, which for those outside of the organization is one of our epic struggles. Because of limited resources, staff have only a certain amount of time, money, materials, etc to invest in any given year. The majority of these resources usually go to younger students (freshmen and sophomores) for a variety of reasons. It's in this variety that many staff and students stumble and misunderstand the why's behind this strategy.
My staff team will actually be discussing this issue tomorrow, 11am PST on BlogTalkRadio. You can go to our site to listen in. You can always download the episode on iTunes if you can't listen in live.
Before the episode airs I wanted to ask if you had any thoughts or questions related to this issue of Focusing on The Freshmen. I will be sure to bring them up during the episode and would love for you to call in personally!
