One of the most important areas of leadership that I provide during our staff meetings is pushing our team to use resources to expand rather than refine/build up what we have.
My intuition was wrong when I started leading. I've learned that in order to grow a ministry the process of distributing resources most effectively goes in this order:
1. The top of the funnel--students that do not know Christ
2. The bottom of the funnel--student leaders
3. The middle of the funnel--emerging leaders/nominally involved students
At the beginning of a ministry it's easy to tell the top of the funnel from the bottom. But after five years of leading at Chico I've noticed that it's growing increasingly difficult to discern the middle--I've also noticed a tendency to pull toward distributing resources more towards those at the bottom and the middle than the top.
Do you have any tips or tactics for expanding the top of your ministry funnel? How do you battle the pull toward the middle?
