I'm training four student interns this year, all of whom want to go into full-time ministry after graduation.
They asked to know more about Campus Crusade as an organization, and I drew out a diagram similar to the one on the left.
Bill Bright founded CCC with the goal of winning the college campus today, winning the world tomorrow.
As I have sought to live out that vision in my personal ministry I have experienced CCC to function as a missionary funnel.
We start by going after everyone, and four years later we have a select group of students committed to being missionaries to the world.
I absolutely love this vision.
Things that I have seen threaten the funnel's effectivness:
- Selecting and funneling socially capable but missionaly unaligned students down the funnel.
- A false belief that EVERYONE is called to be a missionary; yes everyone is called to be mission-al, but not -ary.
- Compromising our funnel by investing resources in everyone in our movement, when in reality there are usually less than 20% that are aligned enough to invest and develop.
When CCC gets out of that circle that invests most of its time, energy and resources in those closest to being missionaries and those who are new missionaries we lose our power and detract from Dr. Bright's vision.
